Specifications for ADB I/O

Functional Features

  • Plugs into the Apple Desktop Bus port on the Macintosh.
  • 4 ADB I/O units can be connected to one Macintosh.
  • No external power supply needed.
  • 4 relay outputs.
  • The relay outputs have a timer function that can be optionally set to, 0 to 25.5 seconds.
  • 4 data acquisition channels. Each channel can be configured as an analog input (8 bits resolution), a digital input or a digital output.
  • Maximum sample rate: 90 samples per second.
4 channels per sample. Max 12 samples per second recommended for smooth simultaneous mouse operation.

  • Width: 122 mm ( 4.80 inch )
  • Depth: 65 mm ( 2.56 inch )

Requirements

  • Macintosh with Apple Desktop Bus.
  • System 7.0 or later.

Electrical Features

  • The ADB I/O unit is powered from the Apple Desktop Bus and thus need no other power supply.
  • The Desktop Bus is protected against short circuit and over voltages.
  • The power consumption is less than 100mA.
  • ADB I/O port A
    • This port has 4 digital input/output channels. They are each connected to a "make contact" Reed-relay, which are connected to a pair of screw terminals.
    • The relays are mounted in sockets for easy exchange to "break-contact" reed-relays if that is desired.
    • The reed-relays can switch 0.5A, 100V DC, max 10VA.
    • Each socket can also accommodate a standard opto-coupler IC, making the channel an isolated input.
  • ADB I/O port B
    • This port has 4 input/output channels. They are configurable as either 4 analog 0-5V inputs, 3 analog inputs and a 3-5V reference input, 2 analog 0-5V inputs and 2 digital inputs/outputs, or finally 4 digital inputs/outputs.
    • Each channel has a user selectable pull-up or pull-down resistor for easy interfacing to digital sensors and switches.
    • The channels are protected against over voltages by surge protection diodes.

Connectors

  • 2 Apple Desktop Bus Connectors
  • Port A: 4 screw terminal pairs. (relay contacts)
  • Port B: 4 screw terminal pairs. (channel and ground)
  • +5V reference voltage: 1 screw terminal pair.
