NUUT, the electronic paper reading system

It's made in korea (by sydkorean Neolux) and if the first of it's kind here in Sweden. OK, it may not be the best. I doesen't boost with it's technology, like support for WLAN or 3g, or Macintosh support, but it does have the ability to read .pdf-documents (more of that later). What it lacks is a few formats that is rather popular out there (namely Mobipocket).

.

But NUUT can handle formats like epub and lots of other formats for both pictures and sound. The size is about 17.8 x 13.6 cm and the weight is about 277 grams. The suppiled memory is at 512 MB. However, the memory format is not directly compatible with PC car readers I should point out. This may be changed in the future according to the manufacturer. This can easyly be discovered by connecting the device to a PC.

When it comes to .pdf documents, the NUUT does it's best. But that may not be good enough. Zooming in on certain documents may render your zooming in to nothing at all. This lack of feature makes the NUUT uite useless when it comes to viewing paper -pdf's like the SVD ones.

On the positive side, the reader comes with alot of books of the older mark. Like Wells, "the invisible man" and Doyle, "Hound of the Baskervilles", Burroughs, "Beasts of Tarzan", and do not forget the Dumas books, "Count of monte cristo" and "Three musketeers". Alot of those have, at least, given me quite a pleasure to read!

How is the reading then? It is like reading out of any ordinary book. The display does make it a real comfort into reading, although one should be aware that 'this is not a touch panel' as it is plainly shown with an additional sticker.

It's batteries are charged from the USB-cable and it will take quite alot of browsing to make them go down (jut viewing a page does not consume any current at all). Connecting the reader t a Macintosh will charge the batteries, but no connection to it can be made at present.

I sas 'at present' since this unit has a update of software via the web, that makes it rather intresting for the future to come.
